Making the decision to become a Registered management consultant, means you are committed to becoming a “professional” consultant, within the Professional Institute for Management Consulting in Alberta.

You can become a Registered, non-certified, management consultant in several categories:

  • Student
  • Prospective – Associate
  • Prospective - Candidate

Becoming a Registrant of ICMCA requires you to commit to following our Universal Code of Professional Conduct and Ethics. This one step alone, separates you from other consultants who are not registered.

As a Registered Consultant in any of the above categories, plus our Certified Categories CMC, FCMC you also become a member in the Canadian Association of Management Consultants.

This provides you access the various Resources for Registrants from ICMCA, plus the many resources available as members in CMC-Canada. (See this other section of the website.)

Students

Whether in Business school or other post-secondary faculties, consider management consulting as a career. A student membership allows you to meet our certified members and develop important professional skills faster.

Prospective - Associate

Whether a recent post-secondary graduate or even someone going through a mid-/late- career change to become a consultant, you can register to become an Associate.  Consulting firms/other enterprises with internal consultant positions value our training and certification programs. We will even pair you up with an experienced member-mentor to guide you.

Individuals embarking on a new career direction can learn the fundamentals – how to write proposals, scope work, and more – plus gain access to a multitude of resources to help you get started and set-up your professional consultancy.

There is no obligation to decide to become a CMC as an Associate. Get to know us, discover our resources, attest to our Code of Conduct, test-out our professional development and networking sessions. There are some pre-requisites however, as part of the Alberta Professional legislation for Registered Management Consultants.

Associate - Candidate

For individuals who want to pursue a professional designation, the CMC is the ONLY professional designation in consulting. And it is recognized with reciprocal consulting privileges in all provinces and territories across Canada, plus in 50 other countries.

Associates interested in pursuing their CMC, start by declaring their interest in becoming a Candidate, and must meet some additional requirements in Alberta’s professional legislation.

Apply to become a Registered Consultant and member of the Institute of Certified Management Consultants of Alberta.  (You will be redirected to the CMC-Canada site.)

CMC is a “Right to Title” Professional Designation

This means only certified and registered management consultants can call themselves Certified Management Consultants. It also means you become part of a community of self-regulating professionals.
