CONSULTANTS WHO LOVE CONSULTING – CARA WOLF, MBA, CMC

Q1 In brief, describe how you entered the profession of management consulting, or when did you decide that management consulting was a profession that you wanted to enter?

As an MBA, I’ve enjoyed assisting executives and entrepreneurs solve their business and technical challenges throughout my career. In 2013, I became a CMC and have advised over 1200 firms at the executive and operational levels ranging in size from Fortune 500 to start-up operations in the areas of technology creation, commercialization, adoption and innovation capacity building.

Q2 What do you love most about consulting?

I love providing valuable business and technological advice to intelligent clients. I also enjoy the variety of engagements and the flexibility of managing my own projects and timelines. I love learning from my clients as I provide valuable insights to drive profit optimization.

Q3 What do you like the least?

I would like more security in the deal flow. I spend a lot of time on business development and would prefer to spend more time with my clients. I experience frustration with clients that miss meetings or don’t get their assigned work done within an agreed upon time frame. Smart work drives results.

Q4 What has been your most satisfying engagement and why?

While I was working for the Business Development Bank of Canada (BDC), I developed technology consulting solutions to increase profitability within our client base. I was able to have a national impact as my strategic advice was implemented. Now I enjoy engagements in the fields of Artificial Intelligence and Cybersecurity.

Q5 What personality trait has helped you the most in your career?

Vision and the belief that I have the skills and abilities to accomplish the goals that I set for my clients and myself.

Q6 Finally, if you were stranded on a desert island - What is one book and one luxury item you would take with you?

The book I would bring would be titled “The Survival Guide for Dummies.” Assuming that a lighter is not considered a luxury item, my luxury item would be a blender for making smoothies – also assuming fruit and vegetables are grown plentifully on the island. If not, a pot for cooking and purifying water.
