CMC Book Club Express

It’s official, CMC has a book club. A book club specially designed for people who want all the benefits of a book club without reading the book.

CMC Book Club Express

CMC Book Club Express is a fun and easy way to explore new books on leadership and management, get to know other CMC members, laugh and meet one of your  professional development requirements.

HOW IT WORKS

Each month a book summary is selected from the Youexec.Com collection of book summaries.  Youexec.com is an executive resource portal used by over 900,000 executives worldwide. Membership to the portal is one of the benefits of your CMC membership.

To participate in the CMC Book Club Express you simply read the selected book summary, register to attend, and log in to the Zoom meeting room. Don’t think you even have time to read a book summary – no worries there is a 20- minute audio summary to download. To access your YouExec account, check out your member benefits page.

NEXT EDITION:

Book: Thanks for the Feedback: The Science and Art of Receiving Feedback Well

This book is a great follow-up to last month's conversation on teams. Giving and receiving feedback is an essential element for enabling a productive environment. In most instances in organizations and perhaps our own experience "feedback sessions" are not always positive or lead to improved outcomes. This summary shares the insights that allow you to be in a better position to give and receive feedback. Learning about the different types of feedback and how to use them effectively is an essential skill and one we can constantly improve.

The book summary will be available with your YouExec.com access through our Members Benefits page. Contact member services if you have any difficulty accessing your YouExec.com account.

Date: Thursday, April 29, 2021

CMC-AB Virtual Happy Hour

The Alberta Virtual Happy Hour is held the first Thursday of every month.  We encourage CMCs, associate members, and those interested in the profession across Alberta and Canada to join us for a discussion on different topics relevant to the management consulting profession.   Typically, we start with a conversation starter where 1-2 learned colleagues share their knowledge on a particular subject and afterwards break out into discussion groups.

This an opportunity to get together with colleagues, enjoy a beverage (virtually), and share ideas on how we can move forward together through these challenging times.   CMCs can claim 2 CPD credits towards your annual CPD compliance.

This event is put on as a collaboration by CIs across the country. Members from Atlantic to BC, and everywhere in between, are encouraged to join and meet fellow consultants part of the national CMC community.

Doing it Differently | Women in Consulting Panel

We're highlighting women in professional consulting - how women can enter the profession, be successful, and meet the unique challenges of working in and influencing an often male-dominated industry.  Join us for the ‘What’s up Wednesday’ Digital Series on May 12 to explore women in consulting. Our panel consists of four Certified Management Consultants who exemplify excellence in their respective fields. We’ll learn from them how women approach consulting and leadership differently with positive results. We’ve extended the time to allow participants to join the discussion and share their experience.

Our panel

  • Moderator: Lyn McDonell, FCMC, C. Dir., President of The Accountability Group
  • Dominique Dennery, FCMC, IAF, PROSCI, Health & Wellness Coach and Facilitator
  • Eva Maxwell, CMC, Management Consultant at Gelder, Gingras & Associates
  • Sonya Gulati, CMC, Senior Manager at KPMG

Learn more about the panel

Some Topics we will be exploring:

  • How to get into consulting… no matter what stage of career
  • If women approach consulting differently with unique ways of seeing, listening, and relating to clients, team members, and networks beyond the firm
  • What the real challenges are
  • Whether and how women of colour face special hurdles and what can be done to elevate their visibility, voice, leadership and impact

In an open discussion, panelists will hear from the participants and answer their questions. If you have a question to pose in advance to the panel, please register and ask your question via the registration process.  The panelists will be reviewing all feedback and will do their best to respond to the main interest areas.
