Why Become an Ontario FCMC? A Q & A with Eileen Gordon

One of the benefits of becoming a CMC is gaining the recognition of your peers.

The Fellow Certified Management Consultant (FCMC) designation is a special recognition for those who have made significant contributions to clients, to their Institutes, to the profession, and to society.

Learn below why Eileen Gordon, FCMC applied for this honorary designation, and consider applying today!

When did you become FCMC?
I was approached in March of 2020 by my peers to apply for the FCMC. They were integral in assisting me in filling out the application.  I was awarded the designation later that year.  It was quite an honour.

What does the FCMC Designation mean to you?
The FCMC is not only a significant designation, but it is a deeply meaningful acknowledgement by peers. I was, and still am, extremely proud and humbled by having been recognized by the profession. I feel such a designation also brings together all of the professional and personal efforts made over the years to strengthen the profession as a whole.

Why should CMC-Ontario members apply to become FCMCs?
I think the FCMC designation allows CMCs to demonstrate to the next generations the fulfillment that a consulting career can allow one to have. A FCMC is a leader.  Having the designation sets one apart as a top-tier professional. It encompasses not only the CMC designation, but also includes a recognition that the individual has exceeded professional obligations – whether it be from a compliance, competency, or ethical perspective.

By applying to become a FCMC, a CMC-Ontario member could broaden their professional reach. Current or prospective clients may see this as a strong differentiator.  The FCMC Designation recognizes consultants not only on their ability to deliver to clients, but to society as a whole.

Giving back to the profession is key to keeping the profession alive and growing. I think having such a designation demonstrates a healthy, professional organization committed to the future and growth of management consulting in very dynamic times.

How can CMC-Ontario members become FCMCs?
CMC-Ontario members can find out more by accessing the FCMC website.  Nominees can self nominate as long as they have two CMCs in good standing second their application.

CMCs can also approach someone they know who is a CMC and see if the individual is interested.  Although, the application looks daunting, it really is a great opportunity to allow the nominee to "toot their own horn".  The effort to fill in the details and reach out to past clients or others for references is a great way to re-connect.

The deadline to apply this year is August 26 – don’t miss out on this great opportunity!
